چکیده

We investigated the relationship between supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and host starburst luminosity in Seyfert galaxies and Palomar-Green QSOs, focusing on the host galaxy morphology. Host starburst luminosity was derived from the 11.3 μm polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon luminosity. We found that the SMBH masses of elliptical-dominated host galaxies are more massive than those of disk-dominated host galaxies statistically. We also found that the SMBH masses of disk-dominated host galaxies seem to be suppressed even under increasing starburst luminosity. These findings imply that final SMBH mass is strongly regulated by host galaxy morphology. This can be understood by considering the radiation drag model as the SMBH growth mechanism, taking into account the radiation efficiency of the host galaxy.

Supermassive Black Hole Masses of AGNs with Elliptical Hosts

The recently discovered tight correlation between supermassive black hole mass and central velocity dispersion for both inactive and active galaxies suggests a possibility to estimate the black hole mass from the measured central velocity dispersion. However, for most AGNs it is difficult to measure the central velocity dispersions of their host galaxies directly with the spectroscopic studies....

Understanding the environment around the intermediate mass black hole candidate ESO 243-49 HLX-1

Aims. ESO 243-49 HLX-1, otherwise known as HLX-1, is an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH) candidate located 8 (3.7 Kpc) from the centre of the edge-on S0 galaxy ESO 243-49. How the black hole came to be associated with this galaxy, and the nature of the environment in which it resides, are still unclear. Using multi-wavelength observations we investigate the nature of the medium surrounding H...

Black Holes and Galaxy Metamorphosis

Supermassive black holes can be seen as an agent of galaxy transformation. In particular, a supermassive black hole can cause a triaxial galaxy to evolve toward axisymmetry by inducing chaos in centrophilic orbit families. This is one way in which a single supermassive black hole can induce large-scale changes in the structure of its host galaxy – changes on scales far larger than the Schwarzsc...

Evolution of supermassive black holes

Supermassive black holes (SMBHs) are nowadays believed to reside in most local galaxies, and the available data show an empirical correlation between bulge luminosity or stellar velocity dispersion and black hole mass, suggesting a single mechanism for assembling black holes and forming spheroids in galaxy halos. The evidence is therefore in favour of a co-evolution between galaxies, black hole...

Supermassive black holes in radio-loud AGN

In this review the correlations between host galaxy properties and black-hole mass determined from nearby quiescent galaxies are briefly discussed, before proceeding to investigate their application to active galactic nuclei (AGN). The recent advances in estimating the black-hole masses of AGN are then reviewed, followed by an examination of the connection between black-hole mass and radio lumi...
